About

A compendium of bicycle infrastructure manuals to serve as reference for cycling enthusiastic urban planners. Bringing to you cycling practices from all over the world to help get you and your community out of cars and onto bikes. This resource contains all the references – from infrastructure design manuals to cycling master plans to strategy guides – that you’d need to achieve cities with strong bike cultures.

Cycling mode share is as high as 40% in Dutch cities; not surprising when taking into consideration the approximate 88 000 km of infrastructure that accommodate cycling and promote both commuting and recreational uses. Additionally, studies find that reckless driving behaviour is reduced as more cyclists and pedestrians hit the streets so be part of the movement, enjoy the outdoors and get healthy just by making the choice to cycle to your destination. More reliable than transit, less time spent looking for parking and no traffic jams, what more can you ask of your mode of transportation?

George is a PhD candidate in the Urban Cycling Institute at the University of Amsterdam, researching the experience of cycling and exploring how ideas from urban design can guide the creation of healthy and attractive environments that encourage cycling as a practical and delightful mode of daily transport. His previous research at the University of Toronto includes a study of cycling patterns in the suburban communities. He is cross-appointed at the Eindhoven University of Technology.

Trey is a researcher at the Urban Cycling Institute and founder of Bicycle User Experience (BUX). He is interested in the experience everyday people have while cycling, and is also currently publishing his research on how planning organizations can adopt more agile and flexible ways of working. Before, he was project manager for Streetmix, making it available in multiple languages, and built a team of bike couriers at Homer Logistics.

Cathy is a former biochemistry turned computer science student studying user experience as a hobby and dabbles in human factors research on the side. She intends to take the most valuable parts of each field and apply them to creating sophisticated, functional and human-focused websites – while promoting cycling, of course.

She studied infrastructure and environmental engineering and is determined to make use of spatial behaviour and movement analysis to plan and design suitable cycling infrastructure.

Sreten is a traffic engineer pursuing his PhD at the University of Belgrade, where he also works as an Assistant at the Department of Traffic Design. He promotes cycling and walking as elementary forms of movement and transportation which are the fundamental bases for the development of modern and environmentally sustainable cities. His additional areas of interest are: micromobility, traffic design in the function of modern technologies and artificial intelligence in traffic.
